Spain
Overview
At the heart of Spain's uniqueness lies the multitude of kingdoms which made up this country, a rich diversity which bequeathed Spain its many languages, its varied culture and cuisine, along with its rich artistic heritage. Spain can boast prehistoric cave paintings, as well as cutting-edge modern architecture. Its Moorish palaces are still to be seen and can be visited as well as Roman remains and Gothic and Renaissance cathedrals.
On the south western edge of Europe, Spain is not even 14 kms from Africa at its closest point.
Weather
Spain's climate is diverse, affected by altitude, the surrounding Sea and Ocean, together with the effects of being a large land mass.
Mediterranean Spain receives a lot of sunshine, has mild winters and warm summers.
Summers in Central Spain are typically hot with average sunshine hours peaking at 12 hours/day and there is low rainfall. The region can occasionally experience cold winds coming off the sierras.
Spain's Atlantic coast is the wettest and most cloudy part of the country, although summers can periodically experience drought conditions when the warm sunny weather kicks in.
