Brazil

Overview

Brazil is South America's largest country, stretching nearly 8.5 million square km and with over 4 and a half thousand miles of stunning Brazilian coastline to explore. The coastal cities and islands of Brazil offer suburb opportunities for fun and relaxation, taking advantage of Brazil's warm climate and glorious blue waters.

Whether it's golden sandy beaches serviced by top-notch Brazilian hotels, the wide bio-diversity offered by Brazil's lush Amazon Basin and Pantanal wetlands, the rhythm of the famous Rio de Janerio Carnaval, the pervasive beat of the samba or simply the joy of interacting with the passionate Brazilian people, Brazil has something to offer everyone.

In 2016 Brazil has the honour of being the first South American country to host The Olympic Games. As a former Portuguese colony, Brazil's official language is Portuguese but Spanish and English are also spoken.

Main resorts & attractions

Rio de Janeiro is a major draw for tourists to Brazil, boasting its famous Copacabana and Ipanema Beaches, and Sugarloaf Mountain overlooking Rio de Janeiro's harbour. Rio de Janeiro also hosts the most famous of Brazil's annual carnivals, the Rio Carnaval, starting the weekend before Ash Wednesday, lasting four days and attracting thousands of people to Brazil from all over the world.

For nature lovers look no further than Brazil's northern area, covered by the world's largest tropical rain forest, the Amazon. Or Brazil's Pantanal, the world's biggest wetlands. A bird watcher's idea of heaven, Brazil has over 1700 species of birds in Brazil's 40-plus National Parks.

Other natural beauty spots abound throughout Brazil - lakes, mountains and, of course, Brazil's world-famous Iguaçu Falls. South America's biggest falls, and separating Brazil from its neighbour Argentina, Iguaçu boasts 275 distinct waterfalls.
